Mission Statement: The mission of the Northbridge Title I Program is to help our students gain the reading and writing skills they will need to use in their daily lives. We provide support to students, parents, and teachers to help students achieve their highest potential, feel confident in their abilities, and take responsibility for their success.
Goals:
Provide students with high-quality instruction to achieve proficiency on challenging state and district standards and assessments.
Help students see how reading and writing are tied to their everyday lives.
Help students become confident in their ability to achieve in reading and writing.
Title I Services in Northbridge: Title I services in Northbridge are focused on providing support in the areas of reading and writing to students. Interventionists provide direct instruction to students in small groups and/or one-to-one support. Students may also receive push-in support during ELA lessons occurring in the classroom. Interventionists work closely with classroom teachers to identify the best support model for students, ensure instruction is properly aligned to the work students are doing in their own class, as well as teaching foundational skills that students may not have mastered yet.
Interventionists: Interventionists support students in the areas of reading and writing. They work collaboratively with the Title I Director, Building Principals, Instructional Coach, Classroom Teachers, and in the following areas:
Direct Instruction:
Work with designated students within the classroom setting
Provide small group and/or one-to-one reinforcement of skills in and out of the classroom
Provide modification and manipulatives as needed to enhance student comprehension
Provide additional targeted instruction to enhance student comprehension
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education and ELL staff
Assessment:
Assist with Universal Screening assessment and other assessments (i.e. placement tests, benchmarking, progress monitoring)
Maintain on-going assessment of student progress for consideration of further evaluation as appropriate
Other:
Participate in parent/teacher conferences as requested
Participate in lesson planning with the classroom teacher
Report on student progress at Student Support Team and IEP meetings as requested
Follow guidelines and requirements of Title I as specified by NCLB
Title I Services in Schools: Title I services are available for students in grades K-8. At Northbridge Elementary School are 4 interventionists to support students in ELA for grades K-5. At Northbridge Middle School there is 1 ELA interventionist and 1 math interventionist to support students in grades 6-8. Interventionists provide direct services for students in small groups or one-on-one. Interventionists may also provide push-in support within the regular classroom setting. Interventionists meet students’ needs by:
Providing direct reading, and writing instruction to create a strong foundation for learning
Teaching them skills to decode words, comprehend what they read, write clearly, and solve math problems confidently and independently
Reinforcing self-checking strategies to help students work more independently providing a variety of strategies and materials to enhance student learning
Offering immediate feedback to students to promote and reinforce understanding of reading, writing and math processes and concepts
Collaborating with classroom teachers to teach concepts effectively
Eligibility Process: Northbridge Elementary School and Northbridge Middle School have been accepted in a Schoolwide Title I program. A Schoolwide Title 1 Program is a method of delivering Title 1 services that allows the school to address the educational needs of all students in a school community. In a schoolwide model, Title 1 services can provide comprehensive strategies for improving the entire school such that every student can achieve at high levels of academic proficiency.
Schoolwide programs serve all students in the school. All staff, resources and classes are part of the overall schoolwide program. The purpose is to generate high levels of academic achievement in core subject areas for all students. This purpose is achieved through high quality instruction and programming based on the use of scientifically based research, strategies and methods to improve teacher development.
